*role models.*

2005-06-03 and it was 2:08 p.m. when I wrote this:

So I just did a search online through google on "native american women". One morning I was fixin my hair listening to a show with 4 white women on it. There were talking about their marriages and life and faith. It was a christian show.

I wondered to myself if this is the advice I should be listening to that is pertinent to my own culture. Would I be wearing a mask unknowingly and engaging in procedures that are not what my soul really desires as an ndn woman? Then I thought...what would a show of Native women be like?? That would be crazee...what are the things we could talk about within our culture that are relevant to our living styles whether on or off the reservation.

Such an idea. I guess I need to start a Native women's show so we could inspire eachother and not look to the methods of white lady and the black. Although they may be helpful they still aren't coming from where we are. Or where I am.

When Kenny and I were driving back to his house last week he started talking about the lack of role models there are for native kids. We have nobody prominent in the public eye at all. Why is that? I have some ideas to change that...yet it might just end up communal. Whatever the outcome...it's time to stop sitting around.

I feel so bored right now. There are things I want to do but then I am not doing those things. I feel there are other things holding me back which in actuality it is probably just my mind. Our thoughts dictate our actions. As a man thinkith so is he...that's from proverbs in the bible.

Another insight to my search online is that most of the sites that come up with info about Native American Women are all historical or about abuse. There isn't a site where I can go to hear about relationships within Native societies or about body image. What the heck. Geez.
