2004-04-27 and it was 9:59 a.m. when I wrote this:
The Gathering of Nations Pow Wow was awesome. I got to dance and compete with the best dancers in the land. There were two groups of about 25-30 dancers. That is a lot of dancers. The judges must have a really rough time. I wonder if any of them placed me as anything.....hm. Guess I will never know. It was my first jingle competition.
The group I went down there with from the university was fun. We all had a good time. We went to Walmart, the pow wow, and Acoma. I lost 40 dollars the first day of the pow wow. I dropped it along with my license somewhere at the pow wow. There were so many people there...thousands, so I tried to look for my money but never found it...or my license. there were 1500 dancers there.
I got to see some native comedians, r& b singers, and some other artists. I saw the guy who played the Indian in the Cupboard...got my picture taken with a real eagle...that was interesting. I got some more pow wow flyers and a free shirt!!
Our Motel we stayed at had good breakfast so we didn't have to go out and buy our breakfast.
Our last meal was the best meal. We went to a place called Acoma and took a tour. Then because our president of our club is from there...we got to stay and eat while everyone else on the tour had to leave!! I ate so much....we had pisole, enchiladas, taco salad, homemade tortillas, beans, potatoe salad, smoked chicken, tea, water, and strawberry cake. OH man we just kept eating and they would fill up the dishes as we finished something. There was no running water or electricity at Acoma..the houses were awesome. There were made with straw, dirt and water..or something to that affect. We were up 365 feet in the air...the whole village is up on this rock. it was awesome.
I want so much to have new regalias and dance all over the country and the world even more!!! I had a great time and experienced something I never thought i would.
The desires within us...oh how so many of us ignore them or give up on them. I just started reading a book addressing "desire". I am only on chapter 3 and it is amazing. tell you about it more later.
